Meet the Athlete: Jae Poma

RAPID RIVER — With the 2025-26 basketball seson underway Daily Press sports writer Adam Hinch got the opportunity to sit down with Rockets junior guard Jae Poma to discuss a various number of topics.
Adam Hinch: So Jae, when did you start playing basketball?
Jae Poma: I started playing my third grade year. I wasn’t sure if I was going to but my dad talked me into it and it has been my favorite sport ever since.
AH: Do you play any other sports?
JP: I run cross country and track?
AH: What is tour favorite college basketball team?
JP: The Michigan Wolverines.
AH: What is your favorite NFL team?
JP: I really liked J.J. McCarthy at Michigan so I have to say the Vikings after he was drafted there.
AH: What is your favorite subject in school?
JP: I’m really liking our anatomy class right now.
AH: What is your favorite kind of music?
JP: I like country music.
AH: Do you have a favorite artist?
JP: I like Lainey Wilson and Chris Stapleton.
AH: What do you like to do in your spare time?
JP: I like to go fishing, camping and hanging out with friends and family.
AH: What is your favorite food?
JP: Homemade popcorn.
AH: If you could go anywhere on vacation where would you go?
JP: I would go back to Yellowstone.
AH: What is your favorite soft drink?
JP: I’m a big sprite guy.
AH: What is your favorite basketball moment so far?
JP: My eighth grade season when we went undefeated.
