MANISTIQUE — A pair of double-digit scoring runs proved to be too much for the Engadine Eagles as they fell 69-36 to Manistique here Friday.

Manistique trailed 9-8 early to Engadine, when The Emeralds went on a 13-0 run. Manistique junior Connor Tennyson had six of his 23 points during the run.

“We got the ball down low early and got good inside looks,” Tennyson said. “We did a good job of getting momentum early that kind of carried us through the game.”

Cooper Graphos also hit a 3-pointer during the 13-0 run and finished the game with 10 points. The run was capped off by senior Alex Bonneau who took the ball to the basket for a layup to put the Emeralds up 21-9.

The second scoring run came in the fourth quarter as Bonneau drove to the basket for a layup and Tennyson added another seven points. Junior Wesley Segerstrom connected from downtown to extend the Emeralds lead to 63-34. Kaden Mercier hit a mid-range jumper and Graphos capped off the run with a layup extending the lead to 67-34.

“I feel we did a good job as a team tonight,” Emeralds coach Cody Kangas said. “We did a good job of getting the ball inside and working our way out. There are areas we still need to work on but was happy with the effort from the team tonight.”

The Eagles were led by Coleman Loebach and Jackson Oven with nine points each and Teegan Masters finished with seven.

“We had a lot of turnovers tonight,” Eagles coach Jeremy Loebach said. “I was proud of our boys tonight and they actually looked very good. It was a fast paced game and I think we did a good job of playing at that speed.”

The Emeralds also won the JV game as they came from 15 down in the first half to get the win 39-38 and survived an 18 point night from Engadine freshman Kashius Hopper who fouled out halfway through the fourth quarter.
