Multiple area wrestlers heading to Ford Field for state championships

ESCANABA — For hundreds of wrestlers across the state of Michigan, this weekend a battle to get to one place and one place only — Ford Field.
So how did area wrestlers fare in individual regionals this past weekend? Let’s break it all down.
Cadillac regional (boys Division 2)
Escanaba senior Kaleb Gagne achieved plenty of accolades during football season. Now he adds another in his final season of wrestling.
With a 14-2 major decision win over Hudson Crystal of Cedar Springs, Gagne finished third in the 165-pound weight class and earned an automatic berth to Ford Field.
Hart regional (boys Division 3)
Gladstone junior Trevor Thorbahn stayed undefeated at 21-0 while bringing home an individual regional title at 190 pounds, earning a pinfall win over Colton Goethals of Kingsley in 2:52. Gladstone sophomore Ben Wilson is also heading to Ford Field with a fourth-place finish in the 215-pound weight class. He suffered a 17-0 technical fall loss to Grayling’s Danny Bonamie in the third place bout.
Charlevoix regional (boys Division 4)
Bark River-Harris sophomore Mitch Corrigan brought home a third place finish, beating Manistique’s Gavin Ziminski by pinfall 4:27 into the bout. Both are heading to Ford Field by finishing in the top four of the 190-pound weight class.
Myles Nehring finished third in his regional by pinning Jacob Peplinski of Maple City Glen Lake 3:41 into the bout to head to state in the 215-pound weight class.
Charles Walker brought an individual regional title back to Bark River-Harris with a 12-2 major decision over Charlevoix’s Connor Ortiz for a berth in the state tournament.
Manistique’s Landon Weber needed 1:44 of match time to pin Manton’s Azrael Horvath for third place to earn a berth to states in the 106-pound weight class. Emeralds’ senior Johnathan Weber also punched his ticket to Ford Field. He reached the regional title match at 120 pounds before suffering a technical fall loss to Traverse City St Francis junior Luke Harper.
North Central sophomore Cooper Raab brought a 126-pound individual regional title back to the halls of North Central with an 11-6 decision of Benzie Central junior Dayne Gillison in the title match.
Cadillac regional (girls only)
Who says wrestling is only for the boys? Three area girls punched their tickets to Ford Field on Sunday.
Escanaba senior Aubree Croasdell is making her return to state finals after earning a pinfall victory over Montague’s 1:48 into the bout to finish third in the regional and earn an automatic berth in the 235-pound weight class.
North Central is also sending two girls to Ford Field.
Freshman Maizy Olson fell to Maple City Glen Lake’s Emmanuela Alaimo 4-0 in the third-place showdown, but still punched her ticket to Ford Field with the top-four finish in the 105-pound weight class.
Then there’s senior Madalynn Corrigan, who also earned a fourth-place finish to get to Ford Field. Corrigan dropped the third-place bout to Frankfort’s Isabella Crompton via a 10-0 major decision.
Individual state finals take place from Feb. 28- March 1.
