Gladstone girls swimming claims tri-meet win, boys finish in second place

MANISTIQUE — Gladstone girls swimming swim team defeated Kingsford and Manistique in a tri-meet Tuesday at Manistique. The Braves girls team accumulated 134 points to beat Kingsford’s 119 points and Manistique’s 33 points. Gladstone’s boys team placed second with 100 points, falling to Kingsford’s winning 126 points and beating Manistique’s 28 points.

Gladstone girls won 9 of 11 swimming events.

Mary Hook won the 200 meter intermedley and 100 meter backstroke. Adrianna Getzloff won the 200 meter freestyle and the 100 meter backstroke. Irene Neumeier placed second in the 100 meter butterfly. Reese Herioux won the 50 meter freestyle and placed second in the 500 meter freestyle. Ava Getzloff finished first in the 500 meter freestyle. The Braves relay teams for the 200 meter medley and 200 meter freestyle relay events also won. Aubrey Elliot placed second in the 50 meter freestyle, falling by a shade over one second for first place. The girls 400 meter freestyle relay team placed second.

The boys won three events on Tuesday. Nate Lanaville who won the 200 meter freestyle and placed second in the 100 meter butterfly. Tyler Soderman won the 100 meter freestyle and placed second in the 100 meter backstroke. Gideon Barron took first in the 500 meter freestyle and placed third in the 200 meter IM. The boys relay teams placed second in the 200 meter medley, 200 meter freestyle, and 400 meter freestyle events.

The Braves host Manistique and Ishpeming-Negaunee in a tri-meet on Friday at the Northern Lights YMCA pool in Escanaba.
