Muskegon sweeps Norse in tripleheader

MUSKEGON — It was another rough day on the baseball diamond for the Bay College Norse as they got swept by Muskegon Community College in a tripleheader here Monday.

The Norse, which dropped both ends of a doubleheader to the Jayhawks Sunday, committed five errors in an 11-1 loss in the opener which was decided in five innings Monday.

Bay scored its lone run on Xavier Whittle’s triple in the opening frame.

The Norse managed just four hits off winning pitcher Ethan Prins, who struck out four and walked two through five innings.

Blake Julien, who threw three innings, absorbed the loss. He walked two and surrendered seven runs on five hits.

Cole Olson, Brandon Buktus and Mason Brunworth led the Jayhawks with two hits each in the MCCAA North Division contest.

A late comeback fell a little short for the Norse, who dropped a 7-5 decision in the second game.

The Norse, who scored three times in the seventh, were led by Hector Araguayan’s three hits and four RBIs. Ritsuki Nonomura added two hits. Abdiel Gonzalez had a pair for the Jayhawks.

Bay finished with eight hits and stranded 15 baserunners.

Zac Gomersall pitched 4 1/3 innings and took the loss. He fanned three, walked three and gave up seven runs on six hits. Andrew Dukesherer worked 6 2/3 frames for the win, striking out eight, walking two and allowing five runs on seven hits.

Araguayan had two of Bay’s six hits in the nightcap in which it left 12 runners on base.

Gonzalez again had a pair of hits for the Jayhawks, who finished with seven.

Whittle worked 3 2/3 innings and absorbed the loss. He walked six and allowed two runs on four hits.

Sawyer Meeuwes fanned seven, walked two and gave up two runs on seven hits in a winning effort.

Bay, which dropped to 3-15 overall and 0-5 in the league, plays three games Friday and a twinbill Saturday at Mid Michigan College.
