Bay College splits doubleheader with Delta College
WELLS — The Bay College Norse picked up their second win of the season here Thursday as they defeated Delta College 15-8 in game two and dropped game one 8-5.
Harrison Haigh posted four runs on three hits in the contest including a two-run home run in the first inning of game two to put the Norse up 2-0.
“He got the scoring going for us in that game,” Norse coach Mike Pankow said. “He has been struggling with an injury and today he showed what we know he can do when he is fully healthy.”
The Norse collected 14 hits in the game while the Pioneers had 10 hits.
In the top of the third inning, the Pioneers took the lead as Jack Berthiaume homered to left field and Ben Mackenzie flew out, Talan Debo singled to right field and Austin Huyck singled to center, each scoring a run putting the Pioneers up 4-2.
Andy Lederer hit a solo homer in the fourth inning to extend the Pioneers lead to 5-2.
The Norse flipped the game in the sixth inning as they scored nine runs on seven hits highlighted by a three-run single by Antonio Lopresti.
Isaac Sarles earned the win for the Norse allowing one run on one hit with four strikeouts and three walks.
In the first game, Ben Misenar put the Pioneers on the board in the top of the second inning on a two-run homer.
After Delta College scored one run in the top of the fifth inning to take 3-0 lead, the Norse tied the game in the bottom of the fifth as Avery Wilson and Bon LaChance each singled to score a run and Jake Rolfe hit a RBI-double all hits scored a run.
Jake Olson took the loss for Bay College allowing six runs and seven hits with 10 strikeouts and three walks.
“Our pitchers played well today,” Pankow said. “Olson had probably his best game of the season we just didn’t take care of him on defense.”
