Bay Norse drop three softball decisions to Muskegon

MUSKEGON — The Bay College Norse put the ball in play often, but it wasn’t quite enough to keep them from dropping three softball decisions to Muskegon Community College here Monday.

Bay collected 14 hits and none of its hitters struck out in an 11-10 loss in the finale.

The Norse took a 10-7 lead by scoring four times in the sixth inning, but the Jayhawks tied the score in their half in the sixth and won it in the seventh.

Bay stranded 16 baserunners and Muskegon left 23 on the basepaths.

Ellie Miller went 4-for-4 and Desiree Bender and Natalie Belanger had two hits each for the Norse, who fell to 7-15 overall and 1-4 in the MCCAA North Division contest.

Jasmine Pastor homered, finished 4-for-4 and drove in five runs for the Jayhawks, who had 15 hits. Brooklyn Galdeen added three and Brianna Pastor, Ileana Hatcher and Morgan Knapp had two apiece.

Rachael Winkel, who pitched five innings, took the loss. She struck out five, walked three and gave up 10 runs on 14 hits.

Winning pitcher Briana Pastor went the distance, walking three and allowing 10 runs on 10 hits.

The Norse also had 14 hits in the second game, but left 24 runners on base.

Lexi Kacalo led with three hits. Diane Salinas, Sorochan, Belanger and Zoe Ramble had two each and Siera Jones ripped a two-run homer. Brianna and Jasmine Pastor, Lilli Goodrich and Aaliyah Calkins led Muskegon with two hits apiece.

Hatcher, Goodrich and Jasmine Pastor homered for the Jayhawks, who had 13 hits.

Belanger worked three frames and absorbed the loss, striking out two, walking two and giving up seven runs on six hits.

Cassie Kohnke, who took the win, walked two and allowed six runs on 10 hits through 4 2/3 innings.

Bay was also unable to get the timely hits in a 4-3 loss in the opener.

Kacalo had three of Bay’s seven hits and drove in all three runs. Kohnke finished 3-for-3 and Knapp and Jasime Pastor had two hits apiece.

The Jayhawks collected 10 hits and the Norse committed three errors.

Losing pitcher Winkel allowed eight hits and fanned three through six frames. Goodrich also pitched the entire contest and whiffed six and allowed three walks and seven hits.

The Norse travel to Mid Michigan College for three games Friday and a pair Saturday.
