ESCANABA — Escanaba and Norway opened District 10 Major Girls All-Star play in Escanaba on Monday.

Addyson Burkland started things off in the second inning for Norway with a single to right field, then stole the next two bases before scoring on a passed ball.

Norway added another run in the top of the third inning, with Kendall Burkland scoring on an RBI single from Kaylee Baldwin.

Kendall Burkland kept Escanaba scoreless until the fourth inning when Escanaba fired back with 11 runs.

Escanaba added one more in the fifth to end the game 12-2.

Sophie Hill pitched all five innings with zero walks while striking out 13. Anna Martin had a base clearing double and a single. Abby Derkos added three singles for Escanaba.

Two more games between the three teams will be taking place today and Friday before the winner will proceed to Grosse Pointe in July.
