Esky tops Kingsford

KINGSFORD — The Escanaba baseball team bounced back from an early one-run deficit to top Kingsford 10-5 Tuesday in Kingsford.

After tying it at 1 in the second, the Eskymos (17-7) exploded in the top of the fourth with six runs.

After three batters, Esky was sitting at two outs and Chase Cloutier, who reached on an error, on base.

Two batters later, Esky’s Bon LaChance singled on a ground ball and batted in Scott Hiller and Cloutier to put the Eskymos ahead 3-1.

The runs kept coming as Ben Johnson’s grounder knocked in Hunter Lancour, Nick LaFave’s line drive single scored LaChance and Jared Hanson’s grounder drove Johnson home to seal the game and command a 7-1 lead.

The Flivvers added one in the bottom, two in the fifth and one in the sixth but couldn’t overcome Escanaba’s offense, who scored one run in each inning after the fourth.

Johnson earned the win, allowing six hits, five runes (none earned) and two walks while striking out four.

Lancour and LaChance both notched two RBIs– with LaChance also notching two hits, and Trent Lawson, Hiller, Lancour, Johnson, LaFave and Hanson all picked up one hit.
