Braves softball tops Marquette

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone Braves earned an 11-1 victory over Marquette Monday evening in Gladstone as they ended the game early via the mercy rule in the fifth inning.

Montgomery Pepin was credited with the win for the Braves, pitching all five innings for ten strikeouts with two walks and giving up three hits for one unearned run.

Though Marquette scored first, one run in the first inning, the Braves came alive in the second scoring three runs.

They followed that with three more in the third, four in the fourth and the winning run – Aliana Martinez scoring on a hard-hit ground ball off the bat of Tia Schone – to zip things up in the fifth.

Schone and Addie Trombley each had two RBIs in the game as the Braves collected a total of nine hits, reaching also on three Marquette errors.

The Braves will face Escanaba Friday afternoon at the two-day Esky Invite.
