Mid Pen drops game against Stephenson

ST. NICHOLAS — The Mid Peninsula Wolverines boys basketball team absorbed a 60-39 loss against the Stephenson Eagles in their final game of the regular season in St. Nicholas.

“Stephenson was a very, very, well-coached and athletic team,” said Mid Pen coach Mark Branstrom.

Branstrom added that the score doesn’t necessarily reflect the effort from his team and what he said were “four good quarters” they put together

AJ Richmond was back for the Wolverines, and Branstrom said it was great to have the senior again.

“Senior AJ Richmond played his best floor game by far,” he said. “Gabe Perry and Johnas Cretens did a great job on the boards. Offensively, Johnas is getting better each game.”

Bradley VanDamme had 14 points to lead the Wolverines while Cretens had 9, Michael Englund 8, Richmond 7 and Perry with one.

With districts approaching next week, Branstrom said the young Wolverines are starting to come together.

They will play Big Bay in the MHSAA Division 4 District 100 Quarterfinal game March 7. The winner will face Rapid River March 9.
