Jets lead UPSSA poll
ESCANABA — The eight-player football defending state champions are beginning their title defense with holding the top of the Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association U.P. football poll.
North Central (3-0) leads the eight-player poll after wins against Stephenson (46-0), Norway (44-0) and Carney-Nadeau (71-7) as well as taking top spot on the eight-player Associated Press Michigan Football Prep Poll.
Pickford (3-0) sits at second followed by Rudyard (3-0), Forest Park (3-0) and Newberry (3-0) with Ontonagon (2-1) earning an honorable mention.
Kingsford (3-0) topped the 11-player side with wins against Green Bay East (45-6), Gladstone (21-6) and Shawano, Wis. (45-18), and earned the sixth spot on the Associated Press Michigan Football Prep Poll.
Menominee (3-0) took second followed by Marquette (2-1), Sault Ste. Marie (2-1) and Westwood (2-1).
Gladstone (1-2) and Bark River-Harris (3-0) earned honorable mentions.
