Parisian fighting

for UFC Saturday

LAS VEGAS — Escanaba native Josh Parisian will battle in the UFC octagon once again Saturday in Las Vegas.

Parisian (13-4) will face off against Roque Martinez (15-7-2) on the UFC Fight Night preliminary card.

The fight will be Parisian’s second for the UFC, though he has competed in UFC affiliated brands such as the Ultimate Fighter and Dana White’s Contender’s Series.

Parisian vs. Martinez can be seen Saturday on ESPN2 at 4 p.m. EST.

Oaks Men

GLADSTONE — Kevin Vogel carded 32 to lead the Oaks Men’s League Wednesday night in Gladstone.

Tim Shea 33, Steve Gauthier 34, Bryan Burak 35 and James Smith 36 capped off the top five.

Randy Eis and Matt Smith Jr. at 37 and Blake Cowen, Mike Curtin and Tom Fisher at 39 rounded out the scores.

ECC Men

ESCANABA — Jake Berlinski 35, Chris Lemire 36 and Steve Scott 37 were the top three golfers this week for the 9-hole scores in the Escanaba Country Club Men’s League.

Parker Lamarche, Dave Harris, Jeff McCall and Brian Robinette all tied at 38 while Gavin Peacock, Zeke Strand, Mike Beveridge, Tyler Delvauk and Brandon Gundry tied at 39.

Robinette carded 73 to lead on the 18-hole side of things with Scott, Harris and Berlinski at 74.

Rounding out the 18-hole scores were Matt Smith 75, James Smith 76, McCall 77 and Jeff Rae 78.

Highland Women

HYDE — The Highland Women’s League was led by Anna Larson 42 Wednesday night in Hyde.

Christie Forvilly and Nicky Hosking each carded 44 while Anne Madalinki had 45 to follow.

Lori Johnson, Denise Porath and Laura Adams all shot 46, Karen Ettenhoffer 47, Diane Johnson 48 and Rachael Latta and Berta Good 49 rounded out the scores.

GLSRC weekly

youth program

ESCANABA — The Great Lakes Sports and Recreation Club hosts a weekly youth program running from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturdays in June and July excepting the July 4 weekend.

Children ages 5-18 are welcome for the free program, but parents must be present.

Registration is from 8 a.m to 9, with a mandatory saftey meeting thereafter.

Students have the opportunity to try out various shooting and archery sports with certified instructors. All equipment will be provided as will lunch.
