Braves win twice

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone Braves took care of business in convincing fashion here Saturday, sweeping to 9-2 and 16-2 baseball victories over the Calumet Copper Kings.

The second game was decided in three innings.

“I thought we did well,” said Braves’ coach Luke LaCosse. “Our hitting got a little better than in previous games. Our pitching was really good and defensively we were pretty solid. We had young guys come in the second game and I thought they did pretty well. All around, I think everybody hit the ball quite well.”

Brayden Sundquist became the winning pitcher in the opener and Trevor Hansen did likewise in the nightcap. Both worked five innings and Austin Bagwell was the closer in both games.

“Calumet was a pretty young team,” said LaCosse. “I’m very grateful for the travel they did to come down here and play.”
