10-U Hawks icers earn district title
MARQUETTE — The Bink’s Coca-Cola Escanaba Hawks 10U Squirt team is heading back downstate to compete for the honor of State Champion for the second year in a row.
On Sunday, the Hawks defeated Copper Country in the District 8 finals in Marquette by a score of 4-2.
The Hawks were led by ten-year-old Chase Korpi, who had 3 goals in the final match. Korpi’s performance in the finals was a regular occurrence over the weekend, as he led the Hawks in points (15G, 1A) during the five-game tournament.
He wasn’t alone, as nine-year-olds Henry Sholten (7G, 3A) and Jayce Braun (5G, 3A) helped find the back of the net regularly.
Escanaba went undefeated in the event against Marquette Elks (8-5), Iron Mountain (4-2), Newberry (5-4) and Negaunee (10-7).
“The Hawks’ victory was a true representation of the hard work of the entire roster,” said coach Trevor Sholten.
