MHSAA stays mum

EAST LANSING — Executive Director of the MHSAA further commented on the extended delay of contact winter sports in a press release Monday.

“We are unable to provide specific plans yet as we are still evaluating the best options for delivering a memorable experience for 60,000 athletes involved in Winter contact sports. We will continue asking questions and advocating for all of our schools and athletes as we work toward building our next plans for seasons in basketball, competitive cheer, ice hockey and wrestling. We will be ready with specific timelines as soon as MDHHS clears contact sports to begin full activity.

“We have said from the start of the 2020-21 school year that we would do everything possible to have three seasons, and play all three to completion. Our strong advocacy for all sports and seasons — and especially Winter sports — continues every day.”

Tech sweeps NMU

The Michigan Tech Huskies (8-3-1) swept the Northern Michigan University Wildcats (2-10-0) in a last-minute — announced Friday — home-home series (4-1, 2-0) Saturday and Monday.

The first goal of Monday night’s game in Marquette came off the stick of Northern’s Andre Ghantous during a first-period power play.

It was the only point the Wildcats scored in the entire series.

Arvid Caderoth, Tyler Rockwell and Alec Broetzman each scored for the Huskies, one in each period in that order, with Tyrell Buckley adding an empty netter in the third. Tech took the win 4-0.

Friday night, the Huskies shutout the WIldcats in Houghton 2-0. Eric Gotz scored on a power play in the first while Tristan Ashbrook put one in the net in the third.
