Seven local players earn BCAM awards

ESCANABA — Seven area players and four area teams were honored in the recently released Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan annual awards.

On the girl’s side, Gladstone junior Megan Crow was selected to the Division 2 All-State team. Crow finished the season with 14 points per game, 8.8 rebounds per game and 54% shooting from the field. She also helped the Braves upset top-ranked Menominee in a district opener on their way to the district final against Escanaba.

The Mid Peninsula girls — coached by Phil Croasdell — were honored as a team, ranking third in the All-State academic awards with a cumulative team GPA of 3.935.

The Braves — coached by Andy Cretens — also received an honorable mention in the Academic All-State awards with a GPA of 3.859.

For the boys, Carney-Nadeau senior Brett LaFord was selected to the Division 4 All-State team. He crossed 1,000 career points in his final year and finished with a staggering 22.7 ppg and 10.3 rpg. Teammate Beau Koffman earned an honorable mention in his junior year. He collected 12.9 ppg and 4 rpg.

In Division 2, two players apiece from Escanaba and Gladstone earned honorable mentions.

Senior Peyton Fedell and junior Carter Hudson were selected from Escanaba. Fedell notched 17.2 ppg and shot 52% from the field, and Hudson finished with 14.6 ppg, 8.2 rpg and was 48% from the field.

For Gladstone, juniors Cam Ballard and Rane Castor were selected. Ballard finished with 15.9 ppg, 4.2 rpg and 51.5% from the field, and Castor contributed 15.1 ppg and 4.5 rpg with a 53% efficiency from the field.

Academically, Escanaba and Gladstone were also selected as honorable mentions. Gladstone, coached by Dane Quigley, finished the season with a GPA of 3.468, and Escanaba, coached by Tracy Hudson, had a GPA of 3.42.
