Eskymos, Wolves ranked in final U.P. boys poll
ESCANABA — It was a tale of two divisions in the final U.P. boys basketball poll released by the Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association Monday, as everything in Division 1-3 remained the same and straight forward, but nine different teams got votes in a jam-packed Division 4.
Nothing changed in Division 1-3, as Escanaba (13-7) finished the season ranked fourth. Iron Mountain came in as the unanimous No. 1 despite suffering its first loss of the season to second-ranked Negaunee on a buzzer-beater Thursday. The Mountaineers were followed by Negaunee, Marquette, Esky and Munising.
In Division 4, the Carney-Nadeau boys made their first poll appearance of the season at the very end. The Wolves (13-7) finished tied with Ewen-Trout Creek for fourth. Dollar Bay finished as the unanimous No. 1 despite dropping a pair of games in the last two weeks after spending a vast majority of the season undefeated. The Blue Bolts were followed by Pickford and Chassell at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.
Four other teams received votes, including Rudyard, North Central (14-6), Painesdale Jeffers and Wakefield-Marenisco.
