Esky freshmen, jayvee spill Gladstone

ESCANABA — The running clock was used in both games here Thursday night as the Escanaba junior varsity and freshman football teams romped past Gladstone.

The Esky jayvees won the nightcap 42-6, after the Esky frosh won 47-6. The two varsity teams play at Escanaba tonight at 7 p.m.

Nick Rousseau threw four touchdown passes for the Esky jayvees, with Scott Hiller catching two of the scores on plays stretching 23 and 54 yards.

Hiller was also the recipient of a lateral from Trevor Brown as part of a 49-yard TD strike.

Rousseau also hit Nathan Howes on a 29-yard fourth down play.

Rousseau also scored on a three-yard run and Connor Smale had a 12-yard TD jaunt. Rousseau also had two PAT scoring runs and Howes had one.

Gladstone’s only score came late in the game when Brayden Sundquist connected with Austin Steinhoff on a nine-yard toss.

In the freshman game, the Eskymos erupted for a 27-0 first quarter lead. Jake Lippens had a 12-yard TD run and returned a pass interception 43 yards to pay dirt. Also in the first quarter, Trent Lawson and Rielly Huskey had 14-yard TDs, Lawson on a run and Huskey on a pass from Casey Bray.

Kevin Smith had TDs of one and 29 yards in the third quarter and Jordan St. Jacques had a 24-yard TD in the second quarter. Tyler Smith had five conversion kicks for Esky.

Cole Potier had Gladstone’s lone TD, from two yards late in the game.
