Esky basketball
ESCANABA — The Escanaba eighth-grade girls completed a perfect season here Thursday night in a 59-17 basketball rout of Gwinn.
Esky, which finished 11-0, was led by Keira Maki’s 25 points. Saylor Henderson added 19 and Morgan Maki had nine. Bayani Collins scored 11 for Gwinn.
The Esky seventh-graders finished 10-1 following their conquest of the Modeltowners.
Grayson LaMarche paced Esky with 25 points. Ashlee Hubert hit nine and McKenzie Engebretsen had eight.
“Both teams had great years,” said Esky eighth-grade coach Tracy Hudson. “They grew as players, as teams, and were respectful to their teammates and coaches all year. The eighth-grade did not lose a game in two years. The highlight for both teams was when they were down in Negaunee into the fourth quarter and found a way to pull out victories.”
