Mustangs buck Black Bears

MUNISING — Senior Logan Waldron sank four 3-pointers while scoring a game-high 22 points in Munising’s 85-47 boys basketball victory over visiting Big Bay de Noc on Monday night.

The Mustangs (11-3), who moved into a tie for third in Upper Peninsula Division 4 rankings today, raced out to leads of 21-10 and 39-17 after each of the first two quarters.

Among the 10 Munising players who scored were senior Eli Werner with 12 points and senior Jesse Matson with 11.

Chris Chaperon paced the Black Bears with 20 points, most coming from six triples. Teammate Alex LaLonde added 13 points while Kellen Thill had 11.

Each team made eight 3-pointers, but the Mustangs had 15 more 2-pointers (25-10) and also shot a lot more free throws, making 11 of 20 vs. 3 of 6 for Big Bay.

Munising visits No. 2 Rapid River tonight, while Big Bay hosts Mid Peninsula tonight.
