Nordics slip past Cougars

EBEN — North Dickinson used its size to get inside and the Nordics also throttled Superior Central in the fourth quarter to beat the Cougars 46-38 here Thursday night.

The Cougars (2-6 overall, 2-4 Skyline Central) managed just four points in the fourth quarter, equalling the number of their turnovers in that period.

“We started rushing a little too much on offense,” SC coach Branson Richard said of the fourth quarter struggles. SC had four of its 13 turnovers in the final frame, when foul trouble also hurt the Cougars. The Nordics (4-4 overall, 4-3 league) made five free throws in the fourth quarter.

“Those turnovers and fouls hurt us,” said Richard. “Once they took the lead we started to rush too much. There was plenty of time left but got in our own heads or something.”

The Nordics host Norway Monday while the Cougars host Stephenson Jan. 18.
