Broncos run their way past Munising

MUNISING — The third-ranked Bark River-Harris girls withstood a few challenges Tuesday night in a 55-47 basketball triumph over the Munising Mustangs.

“They’re a tough team,” said BR-H coach Josh Eagle. “They really turned it on in the fourth quarter. They have no quit in them. It was an exciting game to coach and watch.”

BR-H led 21-7 after the first quarter and 27-20 at halftime of the Skyline Central Conference contest.

“We got in foul trouble in the first quarter and they hit 12-of-16 free throws in the second quarter, which kept them in game,” said Eagle. “It looked like it was going to be a blowout, but they clawed their way back in it. Our girls are resilient. It nice for them to go up there and play so well.”

Sierra Debelak scored a season-high 24 points and Cassidi Stannard had 16 for the Broncos (8-0 overall, 6-0 league). Daryn Johnson led Munising (4-3 overall, 2-2 SCC) with 16 points. Makayla Werner and Taylor Downs added 14 apiece.

“Hailee Demers got a lot of rebounds and did a good job on Johnson,” said Eagle. “Hailee had a hand in her face.”

The Broncos are idle until Jan. 18 when they host Escanaba. Munising visits Carney-Nadeau Friday.
