EHS tennis opener

MARQUETTE — The Marquette girls tennis team picked up a win on the first day of the season Wednesday in a dominant 8-0 sweep of Escanaba.

Elysa Olivier at No. 1 singles), Mollie Kilpela at No. 2, Kennedy Tate at No. 3 and Natalie Robinia at No. 4 each earned easy two-set wins for the Redettes. The doubles side of the match was more competitive.

In the No. 1 match, Marquette’s Ashlee Tripp and Sydney Kivi notched a hard-fought win over Esky’s Abby Knudsen and Jasmine Clark, 7-6, 6-4.

The tightest match was at No. 2. doubles. After dropping the first set, the Redettes’ Carly Sandstrom and Campbell Kallio outlasted the Eskymos’ team of Maddy Ide and Alison Sommers by winning the next two, 6-7, 6-2, 6-1.

EHS is at Menominee today.
