Riley leads Jets past Stephenson

POWERS — North Central baseball coach Chad Holle didn’t worry after the Jets’ slow start this season.

He figured the Jets would keep improving. And they continued moving forward Tuesday by blanking Stephenson 10-0 in five innings.

“Tonight is first time we played a complete game,” Holle said. “We pitched well, hit well and played good defense with no errors. The boys are starting to believe in themselves.”

Senior Hunter Riley led the way as he pitched a two-hitter with seven strikeouts and two walks on 68 pitches. Riley has been playing with a partial torn rotator cuff and has seen limited action on the mound until Tuesday.

“He’s starting to come around,” said Holle, whose team was fueled by a six-run third inning against Stephenson. “We wanted to get him some work and get him ready for the district.”

The Jets collected nine hits, with Noah Gorzinski, Carter Holle and Wyatt Riley each delivering two hits apiece.

North Central (5-9-2) will play a single league game Saturday against rival Bark River-Harris at 11 a.m.
