Be careful whom you elect

EDITOR: “Stupid is as stupid does” (Forrest Gump-1994) This quote seems to aptly describe the Escanaba City Council along with the Delta County Board of Commissioners. City council: It’s not enough that we’re known as the drug capital of the U.P. and “Methanaba” and now you have added marijuana to the mix. All in the name of money. The city council is supposed to be protecting its’ constituents and our fair city. You certainly have a strange way of accepting that responsibility. EDITOR: A pair of letters to the Editor on 2/23/23 showed an interesting contrast to problem solving. Perhaps lessons can be learned in how to confront problems either real or interpreted. Mr. Tom Grant of Escanaba had a maturely considered approach to dealing with the inevitability of U.P. weather. He recognized that snowplows and their drivers have but one task… move the snow out of the way so traffic can continue safely after a major snowfall. County board meeting

EDITOR: I attended the Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, February 21, and was both appalled and embarrassed at what I witnessed. All citizens of Delta County need to see for themselves the inept and rude behavior exhibited by some of our elected officials. The ineptness is largely the inability to run a meeting using proper protocols and procedures. Examples from Tuesday’s meeting include improperly allowing the chair to make a motion, voting on an issue before having discussion, and calling for back-to-back votes without individual motions. Snow plowing and potholes

EDITOR: City crews, we moved to a “new”office in December. When we moved in, I realized that there was no recyclable bin. So, I simply looked up the correct number and informed them. That same day, or by the next morning, a bin was delivered. Now I know half a dozen people that their first reaction would be to start complaining.
