A human experience

EDITOR: With the election concluded, we need to take this moment to self reflect on how seemingly dehumanizing we as a society have become. The election results we hear are sliced and diced into categories and subcategories, as if people were different species depending upon where they lived or other demographic factors. In reality, I think we can all agree that we don’t believe that we are the sum total of whatever boxes we check next to our name at the DMV. Many seem to often forget this same principle applies to everyone else as well. I was born in Marquette in 1992, I later ...

Candidate endorsement

EDITOR: As the election approaches we should take time to catch our breath and make good sound decisions as to who should represent us. Our local elections are just as important as the national election as the decisions our local elected officials make affect us directly. While many people vote strictly on party lines, that’s not how our family sees things. We look at what’s important, not only for us but for others as well. One example, prior to having children we always voted to support local school millages. Why would we do that? The answer is simple, it was the right thing ...

Candidate endorsement

EDITOR: I would like to voice my support for Kelli van Ginhoven for Delta County District 4 County Commissioner. Since 2022, Kelli has shown tenacity and perseverance. She shows up, puts up, and never stops fighting for making our county a better place to live. Since the recall election in May, I’ve seen her work with other commissioners well in meetings, bring a light to what once was a dark time, and she demonstrates honesty, transparency and shows that she does her research with each decision she makes or issue she brings forward. I encourage all who live in District 4 ...

It’s up to you and your conscience to decide

EDITOR: We will take America without firing a shot - We will bury you! “We can’t expect American people to jump from capitalism to communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving them small doses of socialism, until they awaken one day to find that they have communism! That was a speech given in 1956 by Nikita Khrushchev, 1st secretary of the communist party Soviet Union (53-64) and here we are in 2024. It sounds very real and many elected officials admit to being socialist oor even communist. I am an independent minded voter, I vote for the person (after making ...

The gravest threat

EDITOR: Some people vote Republican because their parents did, and they don’t pay much attention currently to politics. They are too busy with their jobs with their families, following football, planning for hunting season, etc. But the present MAGA Republican party is not your Daddy’s party. It is radically different because of Trump. He has said he is planning on being a dictator. He does not believe in our Constitution or our Democratic form of government. He wants to use the Justice Department to go after his enemies. His lawyers have stated if he is President, he could ...
