Medical supplies needed

EDITOR:

We have seen the television images of ordinary Chinese citizens wearing sanitary masks. South Koreans, too, appear to be having no problem getting masks. Why, then, are health care workers in the most prosperous nation in the world having to do without? The White House cites unprecedented demand, but the demand has was equally unprecedented in China and South Korea. In the absence of a coordinated, federal response, the states are competing with one another, and with the federal government, for critical equipment and supplies. The President has the power to order private industry to produce the protective gear, medical equipment and tests that are needed. It is time for the President to act.
