Can’t afford to pay more taxes
Letter to the Editor
A Headlee rollback is being sought by the current Delta County Board of Commissioners. If you support this, then you support having your taxes go up 9.5% or more at the county level. Serving on the county Board of Commissioners for almost 14 years, I presided over 14 balanced budgets and understand very clearly the difficulty of doing more with less.
It never would have occurred to me to ask you if the board could dip into your pocket more than it already does. You need to get up, get active and let your voice be heard unless you can afford a 9.5% plus increase in your property taxes at the county level.
I can’t speak for Bob Barron or Bob Peterson, but I can tell you that if this is the reason why we were recalled, something stinks. No doubt my detractors will chime in with negativity half-truths and lies.
Elections have consequences and this is a consequence of the recall and the abysmal voter turnout in early May 2024. I warned people about this. Do not sit idle and let your taxes be increased without raising the roof. Personally speaking, I feel I pay too much taxes already, I cannot afford to pay more taxes at any level. To the county board, money does not come from the money tree, taxes are confiscatory and taken from those who work and struggle for a living. If you’re on the county board, I would think twice about supporting this.
