Linda Fay Peters

ESCANABA – Linda Fay Peters (born Johnson, formerly Brown), 74, passed away peacefully on April 22, surrounded by her immediate family.

Linda was the beloved daughter of Francis and Carlton “Culty” Johnson, both of whom preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, August Peters; her children, Robert (“Bob”) Brown and Ryan Brown (Randi); her cherished grandchildren, Amelia and Norah Brown, and Kara and C.J. Peters; and her siblings, Richard Johnson and Judy Johnson.

Linda devoted many years to raising her children, creating a home filled with warmth, care, and support. Her dedication extended well beyond her own family — she remained an active volunteer in the local school system long after her children had moved on, and was a familiar, welcoming presence at the Chamber of Commerce. In her free time, she found great joy in her yard, taking quiet pride in cultivating a space that felt peaceful and inviting to all who visited.

Linda was also a cherished pillar of her broader community. She volunteered with and organized Ladies Day at the UP State Fair for well over a decade, and was known for seeking out recipes from everyone around her — long before she ever took the reins as organizer — to compile the beloved Ladies Day cookbook. She had a deep passion for quilting, was an active member of the Rapid River Quilters, and participated in retreats with the Marquette group, where members lovingly created quilts for women in need.

Linda will be remembered for her love of family, her tireless dedication to her community, and the quiet strength she carried with her throughout her life.

The funeral and memorial services for Linda Peters will be held on Saturday, May 9, at 11:00 AM at St. Thomas Church. The service will begin with a mass, followed by a memorial and a luncheon.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Mayo Clinic in Linda’s memory. Having made 27 visits there over the past five years, the Mayo Clinic held a deeply personal significance to Linda and her family. Donations can be made at mayoclinic.org/match, where a current matching gift opportunity will triple your impact on cancer research and care.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
