Kenneth Wallace Carlson
WELLS — Kenneth Wallace Carlson, age 97, of Wells, Michigan, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family at Christian Park Healthcare Center under the compassionate care of OSF Hospice.
Ken was born on April 30, 1928, in Ford River, Michigan, to Carl and Anna (Pearson) Carlson. He graduated from Escanaba High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, serving from October 4, 1950, until his honorable discharge on July 5, 1952.
On November 29, 1952, Ken married the love of his life, June Judson. Together, they built a life centered on family, raising two children, Earl and Karen, and sharing an extraordinary 73 years of marriage before June’s passing on November 28, 2025. Their bond was a true testament to love, partnership, and devotion. Ken dedicated many years of service to the Harnischfeger Corporation in Escanaba, where he worked faithfully until the plant’s closing in 1983. Above all, Ken cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and a steady, loving presence in the lives of those who knew him.
He found great joy in the simple pleasures of life; motorcycle and minibike races, and especially time spent outdoors. Ken and June were rarely still, often exploring together on their four-wheelers, snowmobiling through winter trails, enjoying pontoon rides, or taking scenic drives along the backroads of FFH-13. Summers were especially meaningful, as they spent many cherished days camping at Pete’s Lake, Camp 7, and Shakey Lakes, creating memories that will live on for generations. Ken was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Escanaba.
He is survived by his children, Karen Carlson and Earl (Kelly) Carlson; his grandchildren, Jamie Ruelle, Kim (Jason) Laplant, and Jim Ruelle; and his great-grandchildren, Austin and Alexis Wills, Gary Ruelle, Abby and Autumn Laplant, and Amayiah Labuwi. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.
In addition to his parents and beloved wife, June, Ken was preceded in death by his brothers, Carl, Arvid, Albert, Robert, and James; his sisters, Hildred, Vernice, and Joyce; his granddaughter, Amy Jo Johnson; and his grandson, Gage Ruelle-Wills.
Visitation will be held from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 24, 2026, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. A funeral service celebrating Ken’s life will follow at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Mike Markwell officiating. Military honors will follow. A luncheon will be served afterward in the Ludington Room at the funeral home. Burial will take place at West Ford River Cemetery.
