Douglas Grant Sawyer

ROCK — Douglas Grant Sawyer of Rock, Michigan, formerly of Detroit, age 61, passed away in the comfort of his home on February 15, 2024.

Doug was born to Grant and Lucia (Cecchini) Sawyer in Detroit on October 30, 1963. He was the youngest of four children and was full of mischief, which was impetus for him joining the United States Navy at the age of sixteen. Doug was proud to have served his flag and country.

He lived a full life with many experiences and traveled the world in his youth. Eventually, he settled in Rock, with his wife, and a gaggle of dogs by their side. Doug enjoyed spending his time roaming the land, four-wheeling, boating, drinking the occasional “garage beer” with friends and family, Taco Bell Bean Burritos, and spending time with his animals.

Doug is survived by the “love of his life,” his wife Sandra Croasdell; daughter, Ashley (Bradley) Weingartner; grandchildren, Alexis, Lyra, and Dexter; sister, Cindy Pavlo; brother, David Sawyer; canine companions, Ivy, Izzy, Angus, and puppies 1-9; and the pseudo-son he never had, but just kept on showing up, Gary Grezeszak.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Patricia; and beloved fur babies, Gibson Charlie aka “Worm,” Sammy, Nisua, Roxy, Toby, and Delta.

Veteran’s services will be conducted in the spring of the year by the Rock American Legion Post #559, at the Rock Cemetery.

The Anderson Funeral Homes of Escanaba and Gladstone are assisting the Sawyer family with the arrangements, and online condolence can be sent to the family at www.andersonfuneralhomes.net.
