Jewel Ann Savage

She was born in Escanaba on May 30, 1930, the daughter of Victor and Adele (Johnson) Sundelius.

Jewel was raised in Escanaba and graduated from Escanaba High School, class of 1948.

She enjoyed doing crafts, coffee clutching at McDonald’s with friends, doing puzzle books, and playing Bingo. Jewel contributed to Operation Shoe Box for many years where she filled shoe boxes for military troops. In her earlier years, she was involved with 4-H.

On, October 30, 1948, Jewel married Donald Savage in Schaffer. He preceded her in death on August 6, 2017. Jewel and Donald were united in married for 66 years at the time of his death. They settled in Bridgeview, Ill. to raise their family and returned to their roots in Delta County in 1973 to live out the remainder of their lives.

She is survived by her children, Ronald (Joanne Villeneuve) Savage, Dennis Savage, Donna (John) Hitzker, Darlene Derocher and Diana (Gerald) Derocher; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Stanley (Charlotte) Sundelius and Linda Westby; sisters-in-law, Joanne and Marilyn; and brother-in-law, Kenneth.

Jewel was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Savage; son-in-law, Jeff Derocher; brother, Steve Sundelius; sister, Betty Sovey; and brother-in-law, Donald Westby.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 11 from noon to 2 p.m. at Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S. 13th St., Escanaba.

Burial will take place in Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
