HERMANSVILLE — Jolene Lynn Strauss, 59, of Hermansville, Mich., passed away at home after a lengthy illness. She was born Oct. 13, 1960 in Norway, Mich. to Joseph Murray and the late Carol (Skrobiak) Gearhart. Jolene graduated from Bark River High School, Class of 1978.

On Aug. 23, 1980, she married Mark Strauss at the Hermansville Methodist Church. With her husband Mark, they built the Hermansville Golf Course.

She was determined to finish her degree and she completed her associate’s degree in 2003 at Bay College in early childhood development. Jolene enjoyed golfing and she was an artist that used her many talents to make every event for her friends and family special. Her smile and personality always shined bright in everything that she did and everyone’s life was better for her having been a part of it, from Sheep to Shawl, 4-H, her time as a coach for baseball, volleyball and golf, to her many years as a foster parent.

Jolene is survived by her husband, Mark; daughter, Sarah (Shawn) Filion of Grand Rapids, Mich.; son, Jeffrey Strauss of Hermansville, Mich.; granddaughter, Rayanne Strauss; father, Joseph (Barb) Murray; and nine siblings, Brian (Geraldine) Murray, Christine (Norbert Strom) Hansen, Cathalene Lenca, Jacquelene Sjoholm, Pauline Leaveck, Maria (Erik) Coursey, Esther (Richard) Schroeder, Josh Murray and Samuel (Sara) Murray. Jolene is further survived by brother-in-law, Bruce (Theresa) Strauss, two sisters-in-law, Janice (Earl) Mitchell and Suzy (Frank) Haluska; her god-daughter, Alex Neville, and many nieces and nephews.

Jolene was preceded in death by her mother, Carol; baby, Ryan Strauss; and beloved, grandparents Mike and Veronica Skrobiak and Ernest and Luella Murray.

The service will be held Sunday, July 19 at 1 p.m. CST at the Meyer Township Cemetery in Hermansville. Anderson-Diehm Funeral Home is assisting the family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.andersondiehm.com.
