Nancy Jean (Guertin) Lester

GARDEN, Mich. — Lifelong Garden, Michigan resident, Nancy Jean (Guertin) Lester, passed away on Friday, Jan. 31, 2020, at the Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility in Manistique at the age of 87.

Nancy was born on March 22, 1932, in Garden, Mich., to Edward and Leona Guertin, Sr. She attended Garden Area Schools and graduated from Cooks High School. Upon completion of high school, Nancy relocated to Detroit, Mich. doing factory work. Nancy moved back to Garden and on Aug. 17, 1957, she married the love of her life, Earl (Tubby) Lester. Together they raised their family there.

Nancy was a devoted lifelong member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Garden. She worked for many years at the Marygrove Retreat Center and at the Garden Peninsula Historical Society. She enjoyed may afternoons playing cards and spent years bowling on the lady’s leagues in both Manistique and Escanaba. She was a talented baker and liked to share her home-baked bread and goodies with family and friends. Above all, she loved her grandchildren. She always treasured the time spent with her grandsons taking them to movies, camping, and playing Sorry. And, she adored her great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, David (Brenda) Lester of Garden, Mich.; grandsons, Danny (Rebecca Stollings), Brandon, and Jordan Lester; great-grandchildren, Landon and Olivia Lester; step-grandchildren, Ayla and Jameson Stollings; sisters, Rose Tallman and Marlene St. Ours; sister-in-law, Kay Ann Timbrook; special niece, Susanne Lucas; and several nieces and nephews.

Nancy is preceded in death by her husband, Earl; son, Danny Lester; parents, Leona and Edward; brothers, Edward (Junior) Guertin, Jr., Lawrence Guertin, and Robert Guertin; and sisters, Shirley Lecznar and Marjorie McDonald.

Visitation for Nancy will take place at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Garden, Mich. on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020, from 10 – 11 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. with Fr. John Essel officiating. Burial will take place in the spring at New Garden Cemetery in Garden Township.
