Connie E. Ellis

MANISTIQUE — Daughter of Vern and Carlene Vail, Connie Elizabeth was born on Feb. 8, 1937, in Alabama and moved to Manistique where she attended school. After graduating high school, she met her husband Jim Haran Ellis. Connie and Jim were married in 1957 — and due to Jim’s career — spent the next few decades with their daughter Nancy moving from place to place around the U.S. and South America.

After retiring, Connie and Jim moved back to Manistique where they would finally settle down and establish their home and family. Here they would enjoy spending time with their daughter, Nancy, and two grandsons, Derek and Jake.

Connie was a deeply dedicated member of the First Baptist Church where she held a perfect attendance record for 30 years, of which she was very proud. Her love for children inspired her to run the Sunday school for all 30 of these years, always going above and beyond. Connie was a strong-willed woman and loved her family fiercely, whom she was very grateful to be so close with through the years.

Connie is survived by her husband of 62 years, Jim Ellis; her daughter, Nancy (Kevin) Ellis Kounelis; grandsons, Derek (Crystal) Main and Jake Shampine; step-granddaughters Kelly (Mike) Knoll, Jill Tracey, and Julie (Eric) Olko; great-grandkids Dylan, Lexie, Jamie, Alex, and Mia; and her brother, Bert (Bonnie Simonelli) Vail. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Janice Repp and Gail Stewart.

She will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be at the First Baptist Church in Manistique on Tuesday, Dec. 3, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. with a memorial service starting at 4:30 p.m. There will be a meal to follow. In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to the First Baptist Church in memory of Connie.
