Tina Marie Kelloniemi

CORNELL, Mich. — Tina Marie Kelloniemi, 41, of Cornell, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 11, 2019, from a hard fought battle from cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Tina was born July 17, 1977, in Escanaba, the daughter of Tom and Cathy (Roberts) DeMars.

Tina attended Escanaba Public School and graduated in 1995. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in early childhood development from Northern Michigan University.

A couple of Tina’s favorite jobs were working at Fran’s Gas Station and the Walmart Pharmacy in Escanaba. Her passion for children led her to her final career change as a teacher at Headstart.

She met her husband on a scavenger hunt at the Rusty Rail and were married Sept. 15, 2001. They built their dream home in Cornell. In 2008, they welcomed their first son, David Thomas, and Kevin Michael was born in 2010.

Tina was a faithful Catholic that belonged to Holy Family Catholic Church where she taught CCD multiple years. She was also a boy scout leader and volunteered at Gladstone elementary school in her boys’ classrooms and with the PTO.

Tina loved to socialize. Her many family gatherings, bonfires and camping trips will be remembered by many. She also loved to quilt, garden, ski and hunt. She enjoyed nature and liked to hike, look for frogs and watch sunrises and sunsets with her family. Her favorite season was winter where she could cuddle up and watch a good Hallmark movie with her boys.

Tina will be remembered for always putting others’ needs before her own. Countless amounts of baked goods and food dishes were always given to friends and family members. Most recently, she loved helping at Trotter’s Floral where she could bring smiles to so many different people.

In addition to her loving Husband, Don, Tina is survived by: two sons, David and Kevin Kelloniemi; mother, Cathy DeMars of Escanaba; one brother, Bob (Laura) DeMars of Escanaba; one sister, Mickey (Henry) Trottier of Escanaba; eight nieces and nephews and many cousins.

Tina was preceded in death by her Father.
