Mary F. Holmes

ARNOLD — Mary F. Holmes, 63, of Arnold, passed away Monday afternoon, Feb. 5, 2018, at U.P. Health System – Marquette surrounded by her loving family. She was born as a twin on Jan. 18, 1955, in Escanaba, the daughter of Kenneth and Mary Ruth (Scott) Gustafson. Mary grew up in the Flat Rock area and was a member of the Gladstone High School graduating class of 1973. She went on to attend Bay College where she began her studies in the nursing field. The former Mary Gustafson married David Holmes on April 28, 1975, at the Watson Bible Chapel and he preceded her in death on Sept. 29, 2017. Together, the couple shared 42 years of marriage and raised two beautiful children. Mary later went back to school at Bay College where she first received her LPN degree. While working full time, going to school full time, and caring for her family, Mary obtained her RN degree.

Throughout her working career, Mary was employed at various nursing homes in the area. She loved reading, crocheting, knitting, and video games. Mary always put her family first as they were the light of her life. She was a member of the Watson Bible Chapel.

Mary F. Holmes is survived by daughter, Danielle (Rob) Reis of Millington, Mich.; son, David Holmes of Arnold, Mich.; one granddaughter, Abby Reis; twin sister, Ellen (Dennis) Johnson of Escanaba; three brothers, Terry (Eileen) Gustafson of Perkins, Mich., Robert Gustafson of Green Bay, Wis., and Kenneth (Sue) Gustafson of Alabama; and many nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Mary Ruth Gustafson; and husband, David Holmes.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Wells Township Hall in Arnold. Funeral services celebrating the life of Mary will follow at 12 p.m. Saturday with Pastor Bill Hill officiating.
