Karen G. Mannisto

EBEN JUNCTION – Karen G. Mannisto, 70, of Marquette and formerly of Eben Junction, died early Saturday morning, April 19, 2014, at Marquette General Hospital. She was born on Aug. 25, 1943, to the late Matthew and Margaret (Priuska) Ulvi. Karen graduated from Eben High School in 1961. She married Wilfred “Willy” Mannisto on Jan. 5, 1963, and together they raised their five children. They were married over 43 years when Willy preceded her in death on Nov. 3, 2006. Karen went to work for the Chatham Telephone Company and retired from TDS Telecom with 40 years of service there.

She enjoyed bowling on different leagues in Chatham and in Munising and she also enjoyed working crossword puzzles, cooking, baking, gardening, spending time outdoors and being with her grandchildren.

Karen is survived by her children, Willy (Thelma) Mannisto of Gladstone, Wade (Chris) Mannisto of Munising, Dan “Boone” (Sheila) Mannisto of DePere, Wis., Rene (Mike) Piche of Sault Ste. Marie and Greg (Heather) Mannisto of Eben Junction; grandchildren, Jessica and Ryan Porras, Amanda and Michael Mannisto, Justin and Jaci Mannisto, Nathan, Alyson, Madyson, and Jenna Piche, and Paavo Mannisto; fianc, Willard Hautamaki of Marquette; sister, Alice (Jack) Trelford of Chatham; brother, Art (Doris) Laakso of Apple Valley, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Willy, brothers Norman Laakso and Gordie Ulvi and sister, Arlene Maki.

Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising on Wednesday from 5 until 8 p.m. Karen’s funeral will be at the Sion Lutheran Church in Chatham on Thursday, April 24, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Paul Kelto officiating.
