Blaze destroys barn, camper

WELLS TOWNSHIP — A barn was destroyed Thursday night in Wells Township, according to the Escanaba Public Safety Department.

About 8:52 p.m., officers were called to 3239 18th Road after receiving a call that a barn was on fire. When officers arrived they found that the large metal barn was fully engulfed in flames along with a camper that was parked nearby. The fire was now spreading into the woods. Officers were able to stop the fire from spreading into the woods and were able to extinguish it.

Both the barn and the camper were a total loss.

No injuries were reported, however two piglets in the barn were lost in the fire. Other animals in the barn including horses, chickens and ducks survived.

Officers were at the scene of the fire for about two and a half hours. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

Escanaba Public Safety was assisted by the Escanaba Township Fire Department, Delta County Central Dispatch Center and Rampart EMS
