Prestin, McBroom head to General Election
ESCANABA — The voter had their voices heard Tuesday during the primary election and have selected who will be on the ballot to represent Yoopers in Lansing this November.
Representing the Republicans on the ballot for the 108th District of the Michigan House of Representatives will be David Prestin, of Cedar River, who secured 43.01% of votes cast in the district according to the Michigan Secretary of State’s office. Falling in behind Prestin at the polls were Mark Simon (28.55%), Casey Hoffman (19%) and Kurt Perron (9.43%).
Local results were similar, though Prestin won by a larger margin. In Delta County, Preston took home 51.86% of votes cast, while Simon received 26.43%, Hoffman received 17.18% and Perron took home 4.35%.
Only one candidate filed to represent the Democrats in November, Chris Lopez, of Escanaba. Prestin and Lopez will now face off in the General Election set for Nov. 8.
For the 38th Michigan Senate District, Republicans could choose from incumbent Ed McBroom, of Vulcan, or his challengers, Matthew Furyk or Kayla Wikstrom. Across the district, McBroom received 77.42% of the vote, with Wickstrom securing 13.22% and Furyk securing 9.36% of the vote.
In Delta County, McBroom was more popular than his average across the district. He secured 83.5% of Delta County votes, with Wikstrom and Furyk trailing at 9.97% and 6.33%, respectively.
McBroom will face off in the General Election against Democrat John Braamse, who ran unopposed on the Democratic primary ballot.
