New COVID-19 cases in Delta County low

ESCANABA — Local data Wednesday showed Menominee County has had eight new confirmed COVID-19 positives and Delta County six since April 20.

Delta County also had eight probable cases and Menominee County five more probables listed on the Public Health of Delta and Menominee Counties website Wednesday. Neither county had a new death blamed on the virus in the week’s span.

The PHDM website Wednesday had Delta County at 7,922 confirmed positives, 2,045 probable cases and 157 deaths since the pandemic began. Menominee County has had 3,960 confirmed positives, 1,691 probables and 64 deaths. The deaths included confirmed and probable.

On the state level, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Wednesday added 176 confirmed positives to the Upper Peninsula’s tally since April 20: 64 in Marquette County; 31 in Houghton County; 26 in Dickinson County; 19 in Chippewa County; eight in Menominee and Mackinac counties; seven in Delta County; four in Keweenaw County; three in Iron, Baraga and Gogebic counties; and two in Ontonagon County; Schoolcraft and Luce counties’ counts were reduced by one. The state recorded a virus-related death in Keweenaw and Mackinac counties.

Using only the MDHHS figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 51,696 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 838 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 460 confirmed cases and 55 probable, and 13 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 664 confirmed cases and 771 probable, 12 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Ontonagon County, 891 confirmed, 105 probable and 35 deaths, three probable; Alger County, 1,058 confirmed, 658 probable and eight deaths, five probable; Schoolcraft County, 1,083 confirmed cases and 663 probable, 13 deaths and three probable; Mackinac County, 1,576 confirmed cases and 845 probable, 29 deaths and two probable; Baraga County, 1,724 confirmed cases, 318 probable and 51 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 2,319 confirmed cases and 334 probable, 71 deaths and 16 probable; Gogebic County, 2,747 confirmed cases and 523 probable, 40 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 3,470 confirmed cases and 5,081 probable, and 87 deaths, 17 probable; Menominee County, 3,953 confirmed cases, 1,685 probable and 60 deaths, 10 probable; Dickinson County, 5,013 confirmed cases and 2,399 probable, 86 deaths and 22 probable; Houghton County, 6,781 confirmed cases, 1,086 probable, 81 deaths and 11 probable; Delta County, 7,913 confirmed cases and 2,038 probable, 133 deaths and 24 probable; and Marquette County, 12,044 confirmed cases, 3,055 probable and 119 deaths, 10 probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Wednesday had 14,482 new confirmed and probable coronavirus positives in Michigan since April 20, or an average of about 2,069 per day for the week’s span, for a total of 2,425,946 cases since COVID tracking began. The state for the week added 67 confirmed and probable deaths attributed to the virus to reach 36,002.

The state earlier this month switched to updating COVID-19 data only once a week, on Wednesdays.
