ESCANABA — A blaze that was initially reported as a chimney fire damaged a Wells Township home, Escanaba Public Safety officers said

On Tuesday at approximately 9:21 p.m., officers were called to the residence at 2888 17.75 Lane for a report of a chimney fire.

The first officers arriving on scene discovered the south side of the residence along with the roof was fully engulfed in flames. Officers remained on scene for approximately three hours extinguishing the fire. Escanaba Public Safety was assisted by the Escanaba Township Fire Department, Ford River Township Fire Department, Bark River Township Fire Department, Rampart EMS, UPPCO Electric and the Red Cross. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
