One new COVID-19 case, one death in Delta

ESCANABA — Local data Thursday showed 12 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in Menominee County since Monday while Delta County only had one new case, though it also listed another death attributed to the virus.

The probable case count went up by one in Menominee County for the three-day period but decreased by two in Delta County, according to figures posted on the Public Health of Delta and Menominee Counties website Thursday.

The PHDM on Thursday had Delta County at 7,889 confirmed positives, 2,039 probable cases and 155 deaths since the pandemic began. Menominee County has had 3,936 confirmed positives, 1,688 probables and 63 deaths. The deaths included confirmed and probable.

On the state level, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Wednesday had 44 new confirmed positives in the Upper Peninsula since Monday: 13 in Chippewa County; eight in Menominee County; seven in Houghton County; five in Marquette County; three in Ontonagon, Keweenaw and Mackinac counties; and one each in Alger and Baraga counties. The only virus-related death came in Mackinac County.

Using only the MDHHS numbers, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 51,198 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 819 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 454 confirmed cases and 53 probable, and 12 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 662 confirmed cases and 761 probable, nine confirmed deaths and one probable death; Ontonagon County, 874 confirmed, 104 probable and 35 deaths, three probable; Alger County, 1,055 confirmed, 657 probable and eight deaths, five probable; Schoolcraft County, 1,083 confirmed cases and 666 probable, 14 deaths and three probable; Mackinac County, 1,547 confirmed cases and 836 probable, 28 deaths and two probable; Baraga County, 1,715 confirmed cases, 318 probable and 51 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 2,306 confirmed cases and 337 probable, 70 deaths and 16 probable; Gogebic County, 2,724 confirmed cases and 521 probable, 39 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 3,400 confirmed cases and 5,059 probable, and 84 deaths, 17 probable; Menominee County, 3,926 confirmed cases, 1,684 probable and 60 deaths, nine probable; Dickinson County, 4,984 confirmed cases and 2,377 probable, 86 deaths and 22 probable; Houghton County, 6,679 confirmed cases, 1,088 probable, 78 deaths and 11 probable; Delta County, 7,881 confirmed cases and 2,034 probable, 130 deaths and 25 probable; and Marquette County, 11,908 confirmed cases, 3,022 probable and 115 deaths, 11 probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Wednesday had 1,558 new confirmed coronavirus positives in Michigan since Monday, or an average of 779 per day for the two days, for a total of 2,074,568 cases since COVID tracking began. The state for that period added 95 deaths attributed to the virus — including 86 that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 32,714.
