COVID-19 cases remain low locally
ESCANABA — State data Monday showed four new confirmed COVID-19 positives in Delta County, three in Menominee County and only one in Schoolcraft County since Friday.
State coronavirus figures normally decline during the weekend, despite covering a three-day period.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Monday added 35 confirmed positives in the Upper Peninsula since Friday: 11 in Marquette County; seven in Chippewa County; four in Delta, Iron and Houghton counties; three in Menominee County; and one in Schoolcraft, Alger, Luce, Ontonagon and Keweenaw counties; Dickinson County’s count was reduced by two, Baraga County’s by one. The only virus-related death in the region came in Marquette County.
Using only the MDHHS numbers, the Upper Peninsula as of Monday has had 50,988 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 813 deaths.
Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Friday had Keweenaw County at 451 confirmed cases and 53 probable, and 12 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 658 confirmed cases and 763 probable, nine confirmed deaths and one probable death; Ontonagon County, 868 confirmed, 104 probable and 34 deaths, three probable; Alger County, 1,049 confirmed, 658 probable and eight deaths, five probable; Schoolcraft County, 1,080 confirmed cases and 669 probable, 13 deaths and three probable; Mackinac County, 1,538 confirmed cases and 835 probable, 27 deaths and two probable; Baraga County, 1,707 confirmed cases, 319 probable and 51 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 2,303 confirmed cases and 338 probable, 70 deaths and 16 probable; Gogebic County, 2,721 confirmed cases and 522 probable, 39 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 3,368 confirmed cases and 5,052 probable, and 82 deaths, 17 probable; Menominee County, 3,879 confirmed cases, 1,689 probable and 60 deaths, nine probable; Dickinson County, 4,982 confirmed cases and 2,378 probable, 85 deaths and 22 probable; Houghton County, 6,652 confirmed cases, 1,078 probable, 78 deaths and 11 probable; Delta County, 7,869 confirmed cases and 2,040 probable, 130 deaths and 24 probable; and Marquette County, 11,863 confirmed cases, 3,029 probable and 115 deaths, 10 probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
The MDHHS on Monday had 1,365 new confirmed coronavirus positives in Michigan since Friday, or an average of 455 per day for the three-day period, for a total to date of 2,067,277. The state since Friday added 24 deaths attributed to the virus to reach 32,443.
The state issues new COVID-19 data on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
The Public Health of Delta and Menominee Counties website Monday did not have updated local COVID-19 numbers by print time. The post on its website for Sunday showed only one new COVID-19 confirmed positives in both Delta and Menominee counties since Friday. The numbers for probable cases and deaths remained the same in both counties, according to the PHDM website.
The PHDM on Sunday had Delta County at 7,875 confirmed positives, 2,045 probable cases and 154 deaths since the pandemic began. Menominee County has had 3,885 confirmed positives, 1,693 probables and 63 deaths. The deaths included confirmed and probable.
