ESCANABA — Several area fire departments were kept busy Friday with two structure fires that occurred while temperatures hovered below zero or the single digits.

Gladstone firefighters were called to a home on Minnewasca Drive at 10:38 a.m. after a report of smoke and fire coming from a garage. The home at the location was fully engulfed in flames by 10:53 a.m. They cleared the scene about 3 p.m.

Three people at the scene suffered from smoke inhalation.

Gladstone firefighters were assisted by Brampton and Escanaba Township firefighters, the Delta County Road Commission, UPPCO, the Red Cross and Rampart EMS.

Further information on the blaze was unavailable.

Nahma Township firefighters were called to a second structure fire at 12:03 p.m. at on EE.25 Road. The structure was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters were called.

Nahma firefighters were assisted at the scene by volunteer firefighters from Garden, Ensign and Masonville townships and Tri-Star EMS.
