ESCANABA — Two area residents were recently sentenced to prison terms on drug charges, according to the Delta County Prosecutor’s Office.

Jason Richard Wickstrom, 31, of Escanaba was sentenced to three to 20 years in prison following the entry of a plea to Delivery/Manufacture Methamphetamine.

On December 09, 2019, detectives with the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement South Team conducted an investigation in Escanaba. Detectives had arranged for the purchase of 1 gram of methamphetamine for $175 from Wickstrom at his residence on 300 block of 2nd Avenue South. A subsequent lab test of the substance purchased confirmed it was methamphetamine.

Jalyn Elizabeth Kurth, 19, of Gladstone was sentenced to 23 months to 10 years in prison following the entry of a plea to two counts of Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Analogues (Alprazolam).

On March 22, deputies from the Delta County Sheriff’s Office were on patrol in Escanaba when they conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with a broken taillight. Kurth was driving the vehicle. Kurth initially gave officers a false name and date of birth. Deputies were eventually able to determine her real identity when her Social Security card was located. Officers located several needles in the vehicle as well. A baggie was also located near the feet of Kurth with a crystal substance inside. A test was conduced on the crystal substance, which indicated the substance was methamphetamine.

On April 13, officers from Escanaba Department of Public Safety were called to Kurth’s apartment for a report of someone kicking the door in. Through their investigation, EPSD officers searched Kurth’s bedroom and belongings, as Kurth was on probation. Officers located Alprazolam pills and a small purple baggie with a powdery substance in Kurth’s purse. A test was conducted on the powdery substance, which indicated the substance was methamphetamine.
