Man charged for making threat at Escanaba High School
ESCANABA — Delta County Prosecutor Brett Gardner has announced that a man who caused a lockdown of Escanaba Area Schools last week has been charged in court.
On Oct. 22, officers from Escanaba Public Safety responded to Escanaba High School on reports of a threat at the school. While investigating at the school, a report came from Delta County Central Dispatch that the same individual, Zane Anthony Bukowski, 31 of Escanaba, had called 911 and made a similar threat. Bukowski was contacted at his residence and made statements admitting to making the threats. He was placed under arrest and lodged at the Delta County Jail.
Bukowski was arraigned Monday on one county of False Report or Threat of Terrorism, a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison. His next court hearings will be a probable cause conference, scheduled for Nov. 4, and a preliminary examination, set for Dec. 2.
Bukowski remains lodged in the Delta County Jail with a bond set at $200,000 cash or surety. He has been ordered not to have contact with Escanaba Public Schools or be within 1,000 feet of any school property. He has also been ordered not to possess any firearms or weapons.
