ESCANABA — Pregnancy Services of Delta County, a non-profit pregnancy resource center, is raising funds in support of its existing services and plans for the future through its 7th Annual Walk for Life campaign. Envelopes for the campaign are included in today’s issue of the Daily Press.
“We are very excited to be kicking off our Walk for Life week with an in person event this year on Saturday, June 12 at the Ludington Park Pavilion.” Pregnancy Services of Delta County Executive Director Audra Buchmiller said. “For comfort and convenience, you can participate virtually as well June 13-19.” Those who register to walk by May 28th will receive a free t-shirt.
The overall goal of Pregnancy Services of Delta County is to provide tangible care, help, and hope to women and families experiencing an unplanned pregnancy. Buchmiller said the help offered by Pregnancy Services of Delta County has been in particularly high demand since the start of the pandemic.
“Our theme this year is Love Them Both. In the year of global uncertainty that 2020 was, we connected with families in need of our life affirming services close to 11,000 times! We have empowered many women to choose life while also helping them to leave abusive relationships, become gainfully employed, go back to school, and break free from generational cycles of abuse, poverty, and addiction-and we serve in these ways because in our ministry we value life for mother, father, and child.”
The center regularly serves 30-40 families each month.
Services provided by the center include lab quality pregnancy tests, pregnancy options education, an “Earn While You Learn” educational program for parents, material assistance for families, adoption support, referrals to community agencies, post-abortion support and recovery, crisis intervention, pre- and post-natal support, man-to-man mentoring, healthy relationship education and a 24-hour crisis pregnancy helpline.
Along with the services it already offers, Buchmiller said Pregnancy Services of Delta County is still aiming to introduce new and needed services for our community.
“As we continue to grow, we are taking necessary steps towards the God-sized vision of our future — a new home for our ministry to provide ultrasound services, abortion pill reversal, and additional resources to empower women and families to live the life they deserve,” Buchmiller said.
In addition to the medical services listed above, a larger facility would be able to house classrooms for parenting support and education and additional space for pregnancy loss services. ” We have had the privilege to serve families in our current two-story home, yet we know we are being called to expand our services in ways that will change and save even more lives,” shared Buchmiller. ” Like so many in our community, COVID has had an effect on the time, talent, and treasure needed to make our God-sized vision a reality- but with that can come opportunities that we may not have had otherwise.”
As of this month, Pregnancy Services of Delta County continues to take hopeful steps towards that future.
Buchmiller thanked those who continue to support Pregnancy Services of Delta County, especially during these trying times.
“Our partners and supporters are so faithful,” said Buchmiller. “We wouldn’t be able to serve the families that we do without the individuals in our community that help us to live out our mission and vision,” she said.
