Delta, Menominee only see two new virus cases each

Local health officials reported both Delta and Menominee counties each have had only two new confirmed COVID-19 positives since Wednesday.

The Public Health of Delta and Menominee Counties website update Friday also added seven more probable positives in Delta County. Neither county recorded a new coronavirus-related death.

As of Friday, Delta County has had 3,336 confirmed positives, 686 probable cases and 92 deaths, according to PHDMC. Menominee County had 1,786 confirmed positives, 326 probable and 40 deaths. The deaths included confirmed and probable.

For the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website Friday added only 18 new confirmed positives: three in Schoolcraft, Marquette and Baraga counties; two in Delta, Mackinac and Houghton counties; and one each in Menominee, Dickinson and Ontonagon counties. Luce County had the only new death, its third after not getting its first confirmed fatal case until April 26.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Friday has had 19,867 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 428 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Friday had Keweenaw County at 143 confirmed cases and 32 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 209 confirmed cases and 243 probable, three confirmed death and one probable death; Alger County, 321 confirmed, 192 probable and two deaths, four probable; Schoolcraft County, 341 confirmed cases and 79 probable, four deaths and one probable; Ontonagon County, 410 confirmed, 58 probable and 20 deaths, one probable; Mackinac County, 446 confirmed cases and 250 probable, three deaths; Baraga County, 664 confirmed cases, 122 probable and 37 deaths; Iron County, 979 confirmed cases and 68 probable, 42 deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 1,034 confirmed cases and 362 probable, 22 deaths and 28 probable; Chippewa County, 1,070 confirmed cases and 1,389 probable, and 28 deaths, five probable; Menominee County, 1,783 confirmed cases, 324 probable and 40 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,389 confirmed cases and 334 probable, 59 deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,511 confirmed cases, 607 probable, 33 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 3,330 confirmed cases and 680 probable, 74 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 4,237 confirmed cases, 812 probable and 60 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Friday posted 1,132 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total to date of 882,189. The state Friday had 38 deaths attributed to the virus to reach 18,853.
